Samsung Unveils Thinner Z Fold8 Ultra and Gemini-Powered Watch Ultra2 at London Unpacked

Samsung held its second flagship Unpacked event of the year on July 22 in London, focusing on its foldable and wearable ecosystems. The company officially introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, a standard Galaxy Z Fold8, the Galaxy Z Flip8, and two new smartwatches: the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and the Galaxy Watch9.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Fold8

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra leads the new lineup as the thinnest Galaxy Z Fold model Samsung has produced to date. The Ultra variant is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and features a 5,000 mAh battery. Samsung describes the hardware as a multitasking machine that allows for a side-by-side experience using Multi Window.

The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 features a hardware redesign focused on display proportions. It adopts a 16:10 aspect ratio when closed, making the external screen wider than previous models. When unfolded, the device offers a 4:3 ratio for an immersive view. The Z Fold8 is designated as the lightest foldable in the current lineup.

Galaxy Z Flip8 Redesign

Samsung also revealed the Galaxy Z Flip8, which is the thinnest and lightest model in the Flip series. The device introduces a new curved design intended to make opening the handset effortless. It retains the FlexWindow for custom widgets and notifications, alongside the FlexCam system for group shots and camcorder-style video capture.

Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Watch9

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is a rugged wearable featuring a titanium-cut case designed to withstand atmospheric pressure at depths of 100 meters. The device is equipped with an 800 mAh battery to support extended use during multi-day activities.

A significant software addition to the Watch Ultra2 is the integration of Google Gemini, which enables a "raise-to-talk" gesture for personal assistance. Alongside the Ultra, Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch9, which focuses on 24/7 health monitoring, including sleep quality tracking and heart health sensors.

Official Availability

Samsung has opened pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, Z Flip8, and both new smartwatches on its official website. The devices emphasize thinner hardware and deeper AI integration across the ecosystem for the second half of 2026.
