Samsung has announced a Bespoke over-the-range microwave with a DualVent system designed to improve the capture of smoke and cooking fumes from front burners. The appliance is scheduled to launch in the United States and Canada in September 2026.
Over-the-range microwaves combine cooking and ventilation in one space-saving unit, but their bottom intake can struggle to capture fumes produced near the front edge of a cooktop. Samsung's design adds a second intake at the front of the microwave to extend coverage.
How the DualVent System Works
The microwave uses two air-intake areas:
- Front intake: Provides additional coverage for the front burners, where fumes can escape beyond the reach of a conventional bottom vent.
- Bottom intake: Captures fumes rising from the remaining cooktop area beneath the microwave.
The front blades open when DualVent is activated through the microwave's controls and close when ventilation is turned off. Users do not need to pull out or reposition a separate vent extension manually.
Samsung Claims Up to an 82 Percent Capture Rate
Samsung says DualVent captured up to 82 percent of cooking fumes in its chamber testing, delivering performance comparable to Samsung standalone hoods tested under the same conditions.
That percentage is a manufacturer test result, not a guarantee for every kitchen. Samsung says the test used a carbon-dioxide tracer method and compared two intakes and one exhaust with standalone hoods under identical conditions. Actual performance can vary with installation, ductwork, cooking method, and the surrounding environment.
SmartThings and Automatic Fan Control
The microwave supports Samsung's Auto Connectivity feature when paired with certain Wi-Fi-enabled Samsung cooktops or ranges. Both appliances must be connected to Wi-Fi and registered in the SmartThings app.
With a compatible setup, the ventilation fan can operate in coordination with the cooktop. The microwave also includes a separate thermal-safety function: if the temperature beneath the unit becomes too high, the fan can start automatically. Samsung notes that this safety behavior takes priority over normal Auto Connectivity controls.
Who the New Microwave Is For
The main benefit is wider ventilation coverage without replacing the microwave with a separate range hood. It may appeal to households that frequently cook on front burners but need to preserve cabinet space.
Before purchasing, users should verify cabinet dimensions, electrical requirements, duct configuration, clearance above the cooktop, and compatibility with an existing Samsung range. The advertised ventilation performance depends on correct installation.
Availability
Samsung says the new Bespoke Over-the-Range Microwave with DualVent will be available exclusively in the United States and Canada beginning in September 2026. Pricing and exact model availability may vary by retailer and region.
The Practical Takeaway
DualVent addresses a specific weakness of many over-the-range microwave vents: limited coverage over front burners. The added intake is a practical design change, while the automatic controls may make the ventilation system easier to use with compatible Samsung appliances.
Buyers should treat the 82 percent figure as a controlled manufacturer test and compare the microwave's installation requirements and airflow specifications with the layout of their own kitchen.
